What is the actual difference between the M77 original and the 2.0? The sole. The 2.0 uses a dual-layer construction — the upper portion is a lighter material, the base remains the original PU. This makes the boot lighter underfoot and less stiff than the original. The leather upper, lining, and construction are the same.

Is the 2.0 still a proper military boot? Yes. Same NATO-certified manufacturer, same leather, same standards. The sole change is an engineering improvement — not a downgrade.

Do I still need to break these in? Less so than the original M77. The lighter, more flexible sole reduces initial stiffness. Expect a short break-in period, not the extended process of the original.
