The 553 Firtree is built for Nordic conditions — waterproof nubuck leather upper, 4-layer TOPAZ membrane, and a 2-layer Vibram outsole. This is not a lifestyle boot dressed up as a hiking boot. It handles wet terrain, variable weather, and extended outdoor use.

FAQ

What is the TOPAZ membrane? A 4-layer waterproof breathable membrane — similar in function to Gore-Tex category linings. It blocks liquid water from outside while allowing moisture vapour to escape. Feet stay dry from rain and sweat.

What does the Vibram sole add? Vibram is the industry benchmark for hiking and outdoor outsoles. The 2-layer construction gives better grip on wet rock, mud, and loose terrain than a standard PU sole.

How do these compare to the M77 boots for hiking? The 553 is purpose-built for hiking — nubuck upper, Vibram sole, waterproof membrane. The M77 is a military combat boot that also handles hiking well. For dedicated trail use, the 553 is the better choice. For military-style durability across all conditions, the M77.

How do these compare to the other 553 colorways? Same boot, different leather colour. Firtree is a forest green tone — suits outdoor use well. Tundra is a lighter tan and Black is classic. Construction is identical across all three.

Can these be resoled? The Vibram sole is standard within the boot industry, but resoling should be done by a professional cobbler familiar with Vibram constructions.
